We finally sat down to do our delayed interview with 41? 29!, which IGOA suggested for the local creative design agency spot. As you know, everybody is extremely busy with the end of year business. But regardless, even it was belated; the founder of the agency Alemşah Öztürk answered our classic questions. Tell us your story? It begins in 1996. A young man, who became computer engineer in order to make a computer game but after facing the bitter realities of life entered into the Internet business. Later, at age of 23 becoming the creative director of a team of 45 people and being chosen among 45 young people who are under the age of 40 and expected to change Turkey. Attempts to establish an agency… A very pleasant one and half years in Manajans… Afterwards founding 41? 29!… Being the Chief Happiness Officer of 41? 29! for 5 years. And in between, starting and managing 3 new projects; Grupanya, DBI, Arcademonk… Your weaknesses? They say that I am a bit too sensitive. Occasionally, I have emotional outbursts. My biggest weakness is trying to transform every work I dream about into reality. This is why; I caused the company to incur losses. Sometimes I drift away from the reality and become rigid to make that wonderful project to come true. Unfortunately, sometimes the world does not agree with me. Things that you want to emphasize? Two sayings: Churchill said the first one; “Success is going from failure to failure without losing”. (This is a saying that lifted me up when I made a mistake and I was unsuccessful.) The second one is from Einstein: “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t’ understand it well enough”. (When I evaluate briefing and creative solutions I always remind this to myself.) How is the inspiration? By looking, seeing, reading, living but the most importantly by talking. There is no better way than talking for getting inspired. What is that you call an idea? Even I do not know the formula, the scientists say we synthesize everything we see, watch, read, listen, say, and create new ideas for ourselves. I think it is true. Your heroes? Hmm… I think first comes the Spiderman, because Peter Parker is a real hero with a drama. He has to earn money, has a problematic relation with his girlfriend, plus he constantly questions everything. This is why he always seems very real… After him Kurosaki Ichigo… For a manga character, he is extremely stubborn, unbeatable, and never gives up… If you ask creative people, I would say David Droga, Karpat Polat, and Erol Batislam… I had the pleasure of working with the last two, every second of it was great. Which client should come? Customers always are welcomed who are open minded, know what they want, who see the agency not a place that they do business, impose and implement what they want, but see as a companion on the path to success, who are ready to listen, to take risks, who have goals and dreams, and who appreciate the success. Which client should not come? Customers who say; this is what I want; I do not want anything new, just do it!, 3 minutes past why no one returned my mail, I do not have much money but I want the world, we are doing stuff in the Internet because we have to, and those who do not obey above. Your clients? Renault, Nokia, Garanti, Microsoft, MSN, Çokonat, Dido, Metro, Omo, Yumoş, Rinso, Jelibon, Tofita, Arçelik, Johnnie Walker, J&B, Binboa, Istanblue, Tekirdağ Rakı, Acun’s Reality Shows, and others… Who should we interview after you? If you have not yet, Özgür Alaz.
